Saint Louis Zoo was Founded at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair
After the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, Forest Park was turned into a formal park and the Zoo was built around it in 1913. The fair also resulted in the creation of the Art Palace, which houses the Missouri History Museum. The museum exhibits numerous artifacts from the 1904 World’s Fair, including the famous Open Flight bird cage.

Open Seven Days a Week
The Saint Louis Zoo is open seven days a week and has a full summer schedule. The zoo opens at 8 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and closes at 4:30 p.m. The zoo will also feature the Jungle Boogie outdoor concert series on Fridays. The zoo is located in Forest Park and is easily accessible by car, MetroLink, and MetroBus.
Home to Many Endangered Species
The Saint Louis Zoo is home to many endangered species. In addition to its zoo animals, the Saint Louis Zoo also conducts research and conservation activities to help these species survive. Through partnerships with the Missouri Botanical Garden and Washington University in St. Louis, the Zoo has made it possible to save many species. The Living Earth Collaborative is one such project. Its goal is to educate visitors about the importance of protecting natural habitats and wildlife. The zoo also conducts numerous conservation efforts, including encouraging visitors to use reusable bags and tracking the population of box turtles in Forest Park.
Home to a 4D theater
The STL Zoo is home to a 4-D theater that will thrill you and your family. You can enjoy this thrilling experience on a hot summer day, or cool off in a chilly winter. In either case, admission includes entry into the Dinoroarus, Stingrays at Caribbean Cove, the 4D Theater, and the carousel rides. Tickets are timed and can be purchased at the welcome desks at the north and south entrances.
It Has a Bird House
The Bird House at the STL Zoo is a unique exhibit. It was built to house raptors, which are large game birds from South America. The birds are kept in piano wire exhibits that are equipped with perches and sturdy plants on the bottom. The design is inspired by Spanish architecture, and the inside and exterior of the Bird House feature sculptures of various bird species.
It Has a Herpetarium
The STL Zoo is known for its variety of animals and large natural enclosures. If you’re looking to see snakes and other reptiles, the herpetarium is a great place to visit. This attraction is free and offers a wide variety of species.
