MonstroCity

In 1997, the City Museum Saint Louis opened its doors in a former International Shoe building in the Washington Avenue Loft District of St. Louis, Missouri. The museum is now home to more than 700,000 visitors per year. Its exhibits, which include MonstroCity, depict the human body and evolution.

The museum is a wonderful place to take your children for a day of fun. Among the various exhibits and attractions is MonstroCity, an outdoor play area. There are giant slide-like structures, a 3-story pipe organ, and an incredible gift shop. You can also pick up a pencil that changes color when held.

The Vault Room

Located on the third floor of the museum, Beatnik Bob’s pays tribute to the spirit of a 1950s carnival midway. The exhibition features a photo booth, pinball machines, and funhouses. Beatnik Bob’s is a unique space with a different schedule than the rest of the museum, and regularly closes earlier than the other exhibits.

The Shoelace Factory

The Shoelace Factory is a unique, family-owned enterprise that makes shoelaces from antique textile machines. It opened in 1997, and today boasts three locations. Visitors can watch shoelace makers at work, and they can even get souvenirs such as knee pads. Throughout the factory, there are displays of historic shoemaking machines.

In addition to the Shoelace Factory, visitors can explore the museum’s third-floor circus ring. This building also houses several antique braiding machines and a colorful shoelace shop. The museum also has several lofts, which range in size from 1,300 square feet to two,800 square feet.

The Artifact Shop

The City Museum Saint Louis is a unique destination that showcases the best of local arts and culture.
